Elwyn Receives Community Project Grant to Strengthen Communication with Bilingual Families

Elwyn has been awarded a Community Project Grant from the Eagles Autism Foundation to enhance communication and engagement for bilingual families served through its Shërbimet e Mësimit të Hershëm (ELS) programs.

The grant will fund the purchase of 71 real-time, two-way translation devices for families whose primary language is not English. These devices support communication in more than 40 languages and function with or without internet access, ensuring consistent connection between teachers, therapists, and families.

The technology will allow educators and caregivers to communicate naturally and immediately — strengthening trust between home and school while supporting each child’s social and academic growth. By removing language barriers, the devices will also increase parent and caretaker engagement in their child’s education.

This initiative is especially impactful for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities from non-English speaking households. By expanding access to language services, the project ensures that critical moments of connection, instruction, and support are never lost in translation.
