The Judy and Bill Strine Student Transition Center
Elwyn, headquartered in Media, PA, is expanding our services and capabilities to meet the growing needs of the community with the opening of the Judy and Bill Strine Student Transition Center. This groundbreaking facility will provide post-secondary students ages 18-21 with preparation and training for meaningful employment opportunities as well as independent living.
The Strine Center is key to the first phase of Elwyn’s strategic long-term transformation of our historic Delaware County headquarters into a modern comprehensive campus. The new center is named for Judy and Bill Strine in honor of their generous contribution of $1 million.
Long-time supporters of Elwyn, the Strines realized the need for this vital service in our community. Judy served on Elwyn’s Board of Directors for nearly a decade. Their significant impact at Elwyn will allow this essential and transformative training to change the trajectory for many lives and generations to come.
We also are grateful for the continuing support of the Commonwealth and their $750,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant for this project – special thanks to Senator John Kane and Representative Lisa Borowski for their efforts on our behalf. Additionally, the Wawa Foundation awarded Elwyn a $250,000 grant as part of their commitment to workplace neurodiversity.
The Strine Student Transition Center will simulate actual jobs across various key sectors: food service, cashiering, technology, warehouse operations, and retail. An apartment and recreation room further enhance the curriculum, focusing on the development of independent living skills. These unique aspects differentiate Elwyn's program from others in the region by offering a comprehensive and immersive learning experience that extends beyond traditional classroom education. Elwyn expects the center to serve up to 100 students.
